The wonderful bookstore WORD in Greenpoint, Brooklyn will be hosting a fabulous evening for nail lovers, starting at 7 pm on Tuesday, June 3rd. I'll begin with a talk about the surprisingly rich history of nail polish; thereafter, attendees may participate in a nail product swap. Bring in that bottle that never quite did it for you and go home with a new nail novelty to try. The book will be available for sale and signing, and refreshments will be served. Please come if you can!
Last Friday, I was so pleased to have two speaking engagements. The first was at my graduate-level alma mater, NYU Steinhardt, for students in the Costume Studies graduate program. What an honor to come back and discuss how I developed my thesis into a book! (I neglected to take a picture of the group, but here I am with the program's director and my wonderful former advisor, Nancy Deihl.)
After, onward to Sydney Maresca's Costume Design I & II class at Marymount Manhattan College, where I spoke about nail history and the relationship between clothing and cosmetic fashions. We had a great time! Please get in touch if you'd like to line up a lecture or round table about nails...I'd love to keep the academic discussion going!
A big thank you to everyone who came out for the April 25th release party for Nails. What a memorable evening! As these photos by Cody Swanson testify, Rita Pinto's fabulous Vanity Projects space was filled to capacity with people getting amazing nail art, flipping through the book, lining up for their special inscriptions, and generally having a great time.
I'm excited to have received some early press for Nails! Please click the article below to enlarge and stay tuned for more coverage in the Press section of my site.
The release party will be April 25th! Keep an eye on this space for details as they're confirmed.
